POSITION SUMMARY:

Provides security and a peaceful environment for all patients, visitors, and employees throughout the building and grounds of the hospital. Enforces hospital rules and regulations, investigates policy and law violations on the property and makes arrests when appropriate. Gives Appropriate assistance to all when needed or requested. Ensures that all paperwork is properly completed during shift. Reads any pass-on information left by the previous shift making sure that any task is carried out until complete. Responds to alarms/codes and emergency conditions taking appropriate corrective action. Perform patrol of premises to prevent crime and safety hazards. Conducts preliminary investigations of reported incidents and prepares detailed reports. Provides various customer services such as escorts, auto assistance, and morgue transports.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Performs a variety of routine daily security duties and tasks in a professional and cooperative manner.


  • Completes daily reports and records by clearly writing in complete details of activities on daily shift. Reports are never to be taken off property for confidential reasons. Completes a variance report on any incident such as thefts, injuries, arrests, and damage to property.
  • Observes employees leaving carrying hospital property. If employee does not have proper paperwork from their employer or Administration, they must be detained and the proper Administrator is to be called or property confiscated.
  • Assists employees and others when disturbances occur in the Emergency Room, outpatient areas, nursing floors, and all hospital areas.
  • Performs recovery and movement of human remains. Maintains the integrity of such remains in storage and ensures proper identification of remains prior to release. Rounds in Morgue daily on each shift and records any malfunctions of equipment and reports all maintenance and cleanliness issues.
  • Handles valuables/ deposits/ lost & found/ and keys in appropriate manner to protect property.

    2. Performs a variety of services to assist employees, patients, and visitors in a professional and cooperative manner.


    • Answers all requests to lock or unlock doors and records in daily report the location, person, and reason.
    • Answers requests to provide an escort for employees and visitor on hospital property. Records in daily report escort destination.
    • Controls vehicle and pedestrian traffic on hospital lots and driveways.
    • Gives assistance on loading and unloading patients upon request.
    • Performs a variety of traffic and parking control duties and enforces parking regulations to ensure emergency access and smooth traffic flow.
    • Maintains radio contact at all times with base/other staff.

      3. Performs a variety of patrol duties to ensure the building and grounds are secure/safe.


      • Makes a complete check of hospital grounds at the beginning and end of each shift either on foot or in vehicle. Makes at least six rounds per 12 hour shift.
      • Patrols around all buildings, grounds and lots, being highly visible, looking for safety, fire, or security hazards.
      • Makes rounds on all floors, checks stairwells, restrooms, storage areas, and departments to make sure all areas are secure and safe.
      • Operates and responds to security CCTV/Alarm System as appropriate.
      • Drives safely in accordance with traffic laws.

        4. Performs emergency security duties in a professional/cooperative manner.


        • Responds properly to all emergency (stat) calls correctly within 3 minute receipt of call.
        • Knowledgeable of Critical Incident Response Plans and hospital emergency codes.
        • Knowledgeable of Fire Response Plan and proper use of fire extinguisher.

          5. Assumes responsibility for self-regarding knowledge of policies, manuals, and communications, takes responsibility for self-growth and job improvement.


          • Uses verbal and written communication skills to convey information in a positive and respective manner.
          • Displays an understanding of and need for proper stewardship of hospital/ department resources.
          • Maintains an awareness of one's impact on others in order to display a caring, sensitive approach by listening and responding to the needs of patients, colleagues, and supervisors.
          • Implements job responsibilities in a manner that is sensitive to and supportive of hospitals cultural diversity objectives.
          • Maintains professional growth through in service and training.





            Requirements

            Requirements:


            • A. Education/Skills:






              • Good written and verbal English communication skills (English). Must become IAHSS Basic Security certified within first year of employment (full time only). Must become firearm qualified within first year of employment (full time only), and re-qualify annually.




                • B. Experience:






                  • A minimum of one (1) year experience in law enforcement or security. This requirement may be substituted by Honorable Military Service. Must pass hospital's psychological screening before hire. Excellent working knowledge in all aspects of law enforcement or security.



                    • C. Licenses, Registrations or Certifications


                      Must possess and maintain a valid Louisiana driver's license. Must be eligible for commission as deputy sheriff in Rapides Parish within 6 months of employment and maintain said commission throughout term of employment.
