Responsibilities

As a Clinical Psychologist, you will perform the following duties:

  • Assessing and evaluating the mental health of detainees and refer to outside treatment facilities if necessary.
  • Serving as a mental health consultant to other health professionals at the facility
  • Managing all cases which may involve community treatment placement, hospital placement, or other after care situations.
  • Arranging placement in, or treatment of, detainees in appropriate settings as required by the conditions of release outlined by ICE.

Occasional travel - You may need to travel to other sites for temporary work detail as needed.

  • Probationary Period: This is a full-time permanent position (Career/Career-Conditional appointment). Upon appointment to this position, you may be required to serve a one-year probationary period.

Qualifications

Applicants must demonstrate that they meet the Basic AND Minimum Qualification requirements as noted below. Qualification requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement. Qualification claims will be subject to verification.

Basic Requirements:

You must have successfully completed all the requirements for the doctoral degree (Ph.D. or equivalent) directly related to full professional work in clinical psychology. NOTE: You must submit a copy of your college transcripts (official or unofficial) to support your claim.

AND

Minimum Qualifications:

You must possess an active, current, State license in clinical psychology from a U.S. State, Territory or District? If answering "yes", make sure your resume lists the type of licensure you possess and from where it was obtained and most recent date it was awarded or submit a copy. If your resume does not reflect you possess license, your resume will not be considered.

AND

You must be willing to maintain a current Basic Life Support (BLS) for healthcare provider certification? This certification shall be maintained in a current status at all times while performing services.

Specialized Experience:

For a GS-0180-12, CLINICAL PSYCHOLOGIST: You must possess at least one full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service OR equivalent public or private sector experience performing the following duties:

  • Evaluating, diagnosing and assessing a variety of patients with mental health disorders; AND
  • Applying psychological theories, principles to explain or justify psychological diagnoses, conclusions, findings or treatment recommendations.

Preferred: Applicants with a minimum of 3 years of experience as a Clinical Psychologist preferred.

National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience): Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Current or Former Political Appointees: The Office of Personnel Management (OPM) must authorize employment offers made to current or former political appointees. If you are currently, or have been within the last 5 years, a political Schedule A, Schedule C, Non-career SES or Presidential Appointee employee in the Executive Branch, you must disclose this information to the Human Resources Office.
