The Life of an HCA Nurse
 

The Nurse Trauma Registrar maintains current accurate data within the Trauma Registry by collecting, entering, retrieving and reporting data related to all trauma patients treated at Rapides Regional Medical Center, to establish supportive documentation qualifying Rapides Regional Medical Center as a Level 2 Trauma Center.

 
Responsibilities:
  • Collects trauma patient information through chart requisition and medical records. 
  • Accurately enters demographic and visit information into the Trauma Registry for every trauma patient that meets trauma criteria
  • Accurately codes injury severity for all traumatic injuries using physician/nurses notes, pre-hospital documentation, radiology reports, autopsy reports, and other documents approved by the National Trauma Data Standard (NTDS). 
  • Prepares and submits data summaries to the State and National Trauma Data Bank. 
  • Identifies payer sources and occupation for entry into the trauma registry. 
  • Participates in trauma database user’s group meetings and periodic training. 
  • Maintaining a minimum of 8 hours of registry-specific continuing education per year as required by the ACS. 
  • Provides statistical data as requested by members of the trauma team. 
  • Maintaining data validation compliance by re-abstracting 5-10% of assigned patient records per month in order to maintain validity and quality data.
  • Collaborates with Performance Improvement Team and committee members, medical staff and hospital personnel to maintain full TJC compliance.

 

Qualifications

What Qualifications You Will Need:

  • Nursing degree required. 5 years applicable health care experience, prefer one year experience in the Emergency Department or ICU. Ability to type 40 words per minute. Ability to conduct accurate written and verbal business/medical communication and proficient in medical terminology. Trauma Registry certification on application or within two years of hire as per the registry certification requirements. 
  • Completion of the Trauma Registry Course by the American Trauma Society’s (ATS) and completion of the Injury Scaling Course by the Association of the Advancement in Automotive Medicine (AAAM) within 12 months of hire per the American College of Surgeons (ACS) verification requirements
