(LPN) in theEmergency Department should obtain abroad spectrum of
nursing skills and should be able to handle the stresses of acrisis
situation and still display a tolerant, calm appearance and
professionalattitude. He/she must work effectively with fellow
employees from all units.-- They must coordinate with
ancillarydepartments for the provision of treatment and care of
emergency departmentpatients and the orderly transfer of patients.
He/she should also be able todelegate authority and accept
responsibility for own actions and the actions ofthose under their
supervision. They must fulfill the standard of professionalethics
and demonstrate exceptional customer service skills.---- ------What
you will do inthis role:
- Allaspects of patient care within the scope of practice
- Assistingthe Emergency Department Physician and staff
physicians to provide optimalpatient care.
- Assistin the development of the patient---s plan of care
through identification andcommunication of the patients--- needs to
the RN.--Collects subjective and objective data including pertinent
past medicalhistory and present meds.
- Abilityto coordinate with ancillary departments for the
provision of treatment andcare of emergency department patients and
the orderly transfer or discharge ofthese patients.
- Attendsall scheduled department meetings.-- Ifthe employee is
unable to attend the meeting, she / he should notify theEmergency
Department Director unless the staff member is scheduled to work
ashift in the ED during the meeting or she / he is ill.
- Attendsspecial continuing education workshops, in-service
education offerings, andmaintains nursing skills through annual
review of ED procedures.
- Doesassigned room and equipment checks per shift.
- Toreview and know the proper use of all equipment used in the
EmergencyDepartment.-- The LPN is responsible forfamiliarizing
himself / herself with the crash carts, cast cart, and the
- Thenurse is responsible for keeping abreast of all new
technology, equipment, andmedications used in patient care.
- Providesand explains discharge instructions and identifies
hospital and communityresources to help meet physical,
psycho-social, and nutritional needs.
- Activeparticipant in PI/CQI projects within the ED and in
conjunction with otherdepartments as appropriate.Qualifications
What qualificationsyou will need:
- Currentlylicensed to practice as a Licensed Practical Nurse in
the State of Louisiana
- Atleast one year of general nursing experience preferred
- Completionof CPR for Healthcare Providers within 30 days of
- Completionof ACLS and PALS within 6 months of employment and
aspirations toward TNCC,ENPC, and CEN--Be a part of an organization
